Conclusion Of 37th AIPA: Myanmar Handed Over AIPA Presidency To The Philippines

The 37th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary General Assembly (AIPA) was concluded in Nay Pyi Taw, yesterday. President of AIPA and Speaker of Union Parliament Mahn Win Khaing Than gave a closing address, mentioning that AIPA and ASEAN require close relations to face new challenges to reach ASEAN goals. The assembly made 30 decisions concerning cyber-security in the region, prevention against the Zika virus, creation of job opportunities, better working environments, fortification of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and implementation of projects in the socio-security declaration of ASEAN for the development of business and enterprises in the region. Amendments over rules and regulations of the Women Parliamentarians Organization (draft) were discussed and decided said the Speaker of Union Parliament. He also encouraged AIPA parliamentarians to keep the public aware of goals and activities of AIPA and to monitor its accomplishments and resolution results. The Speaker then handed over the mallet, the symbol of the Assembly chairman and AIPA banner the AIPA Presidency, the mallet and AIPA banner to Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives of Philippines Raneo E. Abu. The Philippines will host the 38th General Assembly of AIPA in Manila in September next year. The proposal to attend the parliaments of Georgia and Ukraine as observes will be discussed at the next Assembly. >>>The 2nd Plenary Session of the 37th AIPA the followed and the decisions made by political, economic and social committees and WAIPA were read out. 6 committees discussed 13 topics at session. Chairperson of WIAPA and MP from Thone Gwa Constituency Daw Su Su Lwin said collaboration is needed to have fully the women rights and protect violence against women.

Chairperson, Committee on Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA), Su Su Lwin : I’d like to say that everyone should have awareness to get fully rights and protection for women and gender equality at the work places. Women and men have responsibility to nurture their children to become reliable persons for the country. We got many experiences and benefits from this assembly. Members of parliaments from our country and the persons from this field had a chance to study the work programs at the meeting.
