11 October 2017

Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia have agreed to build a trilateral cooperation to curb Islamic State activities and ideology in the region, New Straits Times Online reported on Thursday.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid said the collaboration was agreed upon by three leaders – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Indonesian president Joko Widodo and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

“We will work together to hunt down terrorists and stop the ideology in the region,” he said.

The deputy prime minister disclosed that this proactive measure was first agreed by Duterte and Jokowi and Malaysia joined forces later on after Duterte met with Prime Minister Najib Razak during the former’s visit to Malaysia last year.
