New Project Phase Agreements for ASEAN-Interparliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Signed
The Joint Declaration of Intent and Implementation Agreement of the project “AIPA for ASEAN Integration” were signed today, March 14, 2018 in a simple ceremonies held at the AIPA Secretariat Office in Nusantara 3 Building at the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat) of Indonesia complex in Jakarta.
In the photo below, those who signed the agreements were from left, Mr. Bernardo R. Agawin, Jr, Principal Adviser of the Project; His Excellency Ambassador Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg, Ambassador of Germany to Indonesia; Hon. Isra Sunthornvut, Secretary General of AIPA; and Mr. Zulazmi Zulazmi, the Deputy Country Director of GIZ Indonesia, ASEAN and Timor Leste.
As shown in the photo below, the signing ceremonies was also graced by Mr. Frank Jattke, Project Manager of ASEAN Portfolio of GIZ Indonesia, ASEAN and Timor Leste, (Left); Mr. Timo Goosmann, First Secretary for ASEAN Affairs at the German Embassy in Jakarta (Fourth from Left); Ms. Oxana Paustjan of the Economic and Development Cooperation Section of the German Embassy in Jakarta (Second from Right); and Ms. Mai Tang, Senior Officer of Community Relations Division of the ASEAN Secretariat (Right).
This project which is now on its third and final phase is commissioned by the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany and it will be will be implemented jointly by GIZ and AIPA until February 2020. It aims to support the ASEAN integration process and to contribute to the peace, stability and security of the ASEAN region by strengthening the parliamentary normative and control functions of the ASEAN Member States. The project will focus on (1) establishing sustainable mechanisms within AIPA to support the ASEAN integration process, (2) promoting human capacity development plans for selected AIPA Member Parliaments, and (3) strengthening the AIPA Secretariat.
