Parliamentarians from the Southeast Asian region link arms to symbolize their collective resolve to combat the drug menace. According to House Committee on Dangerous Drugs Chairman Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, “the annual meeting of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Fact-Finding Committee (AIFOCOM) to Combat the Drug Menace is one opportunity for legislators to learn how the community has met the challenge of eradicating the illicit trade in drugs and their desire to upgrade the level of their cooperation.” Barbers was appointed Chairperson of the 13th meeting of the AIFOCOM as House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez is currently the AIPA President. The Philippine delegation is composed of Deputy Speaker Raneo E. Abu as Head of Delegation, Reps. Marlyn B. Alonte, Rosemarie “Baby” Arenas, Rodel Batocabe, Dakila Carlo Cua, Eileen Ermita-Buhain, Pablo Ortega, Edgar Sarmiento, Lord Allan Jay Velasco, and Arthur Yap. In attendance are more than 50 Parliamentarians and their respective Secretariats from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
