AIPA President & Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez Addresses AIFOCOM Delegates

House Speaker and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) President Pantaleon Alvarez (upper, left) on Wednesday addresses lawmakers and delegates from Southeast Asian countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam who are attending the 13th AIPA Fact-Finding Committee (AIFOCOM) to Combat the Drug Menace, which is being held at the Conrad Manila from July 5 to 7, 2017. In his welcome remarks, Alvarez underscored the importance of AIFOCOM as a mechanism of cooperation among ASEAN countries to fight illegal drug use and trafficking. He also expressed full support for President Rodrigo Duterte’s war against illegal drugs. Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, chairman of the House committee on dangerous drugs, was appointed chairman of the AIFOCOM Meeting. Barbers challenged his fellow ASEAN lawmakers to be more decisive, bolder and more courageous in the fight against illegal drugs in the ASEAN region.
