In spite of the diversity in their backgrounds, ASEAN parliamentarians have been able to find consensus over a wide range of issues in the economic, social and political fields as evidenced by the wide areas of cooperation agreed upon at the General Assemblies. Many resolutions of AIPO (now AIPA) have found their way into the legislation of member countries. In recent years AIPA had started to develop common legislative initiatives with the ultimate objective of realizing the harmonization of  legislations in member countries.

Mutual visits and exchanges between AIPA Member Parliaments, exchange of visits with other Parliaments as well as AIPA dialogues with Observer countries such as Australia, Canada, China, European Parliament, Japan, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Russian Federation and Republic of Korea have established a network of relationships, closer contacts and understanding among the parliamentarians.

Over the years, AIPA, together with ASEAN, has moved forward in all directions. Contacts have gradually been expanded among peoples of this region and efforts are being undertaken to develop a common identity and the sense of common community. With its vast experience, AIPA will continue to foster greater understanding, cooperation and goodwill among the peoples of this region to facilitate the attainment of ASEAN's regional aspirations for peace, stability, resilience and progress.
